Former Dem gov hopeful shifts into new campaign

March 28, 2014

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — John Hanger is no longer a Democratic candidate for governor, but he hasn't shaken off the campaign bug.

Hanger said Friday that he's launching a new "Pennsylvania People's Campaign" to press a liberal agenda similar to what he espoused in his gubernatorial bid, including the reform of the state's marijuana laws, clean energy production and improvements in public education.

Hanger, a former state utility regulator and former state environmental protection chief, dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination earlier this month.

He says he lacked the money to compete with wealthy businessman Tom Wolf's nonstop TV advertising.
