LEVITTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A suburban Philadelphia woman has been sentenced to 10 years of probation for trying to gouge out her 81-year-old mother's eyes and squeezing the elderly woman so hard around the rib cage that she was bruised and unable to move for days.
The Bucks County Courier-Times (http://bit.ly/K343aD) said 49-year-old Patricia Ann Fitzgerald of Falls Township apologized to her mother before being sentenced Tuesday in Bucks County Court on aggravated assault and related charges.
Fitzgerald told the sentencing judge that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia when she was 25 and had stopped taking her medication shortly before the July 22 incident.
She was also ordered to stay on her medication and comply with doctors' orders.
Fitzgerald spent several weeks in a mental health facility after her July 22 arrest.
