Lawmakers give Pa. transportation bill final OK

November 21, 2013
Associated Press

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A bill to spend billions on roads, bridges and mass transit in Pennsylvania is past its final legislative hurdle and could soon be signed by Gov. Tom Corbett.

The state House voted 113-to-85 on Thursday to increase taxes and fees for what will soon be $2.3 billion or more in annual additional funding.

It would phase in higher gasoline taxes and a range of motorist fees collected by the state Transportation Department.

House passage comes just three days after the chamber narrowly defeated the same proposal.
