Eastern Pa. officer injured when his home burns

READING, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania police officer has been badly burned after his house caught on fire while he was in the shower.

WFMZ-TV ( ) reports Reading police Officer George Gonzalez suffered second- and third-degree burns trying put out the fire, which was reported about 8 p.m. Sunday.

A spokeswoman with Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown says Gonzalez remained in critical condition Monday.

Investigators determined a portable heater sparked the fire, which caused about $65,000 damage to the officer's home.

Gonzalez is a veteran officer with more than 20 years on the force.
