Pa. cement truck driver killed when it overturns

Associated Press

MERCER, Pa. (AP) — A cement truck driver has been killed after his vehicle overturned on a western Pennsylvania highway, but police say an elderly couple whose car was hit in the crash was spared major injuries.

Troopers say 51-year-old James Minteer, of New Castle, died in the crash about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 318 in East Lackawannock Township. That's near Mercer, about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Police say the truck went off the road, hit a culvert, and bounced back into the highway as it was rounding a curve before overturning. The truck slid down both lanes of traffic on its side and hit a car before stopping.

The car's 84-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and his 81-year-old wife, riding in the passenger seat, escaped injury.
