WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A former northeastern Pennsylvania school board member has been sentenced to 14½ years in federal prison for sending thousands of explicit text messages to boys.

Senior U.S. District Judge A. Richard Caputo told former Scranton school board member Mark Kandel his conduct was "reflective of a depraved situation."

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune ( ) reports Even Kandel's 16-year-old daughter asked the judge to imprison her father on Monday, saying he preyed on her friends and made her an object of ridicule.

Federal prosecutors say Kandel sent more than 13,000 messages to 17 boys and that most texts were sexual in nature.

Kandel previously received 90 days on house arrest for unrelated 2008 charges that he furnished alcohol to minors at pool parties in his home, where he asked boys to model underwear.
