NJ state police: Pa. man killed in Route 80 crash

October 5, 2013
Associated Press

ROCKAWAY, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey state police say a Pennsylvania man was killed when his vehicle crashed into the back of a stopped tanker truck while exiting Route 80.

But the cause of Saturday morning's accident in Rockaway remains under investigation.

Thirty-five-year-old John Ward Jr. of Hawley was driving in the right lane of the exit 34B ramp, which leads to Route 15 north. State police say Ward's vehicle hit the tanker truck, which was stopped in the right lane due to heavy traffic on the exit.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. The tanker truck's 68-year-old driver declined treatment.

The accident caused some travel delays in the area while the investigation was ongoing.
