PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Charges have been filed in connection with the deadly shooting of a man in South Philadelphia for his backpack.
WCAU-TV (http://bit.ly/1bx9n2S) said Friday that 21-year-old Tyreek McNeil is charged with murder, robbery, theft and weapons charges. He is being held without bail awaiting a preliminary hearing on Oct. 16.
Police said McNeil rode up to 22-year-old Jose Gabino-Aparicio on a bicycle in the pre-dawn hours of Sept. 26 and demanded his backpack.
Investigators said a struggle began and three shots were fired that struck the victim in the back.
Gabino-Aparicio's family said he was walking home from work and stopped at his brother-in-law's bakery to get bread for his family's breakfast.
