Fire kills 2, including child, in eastern Pa.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania say fire has claimed the lives of two people, including a child, and injured several others.

Emergency officials in Northampton County say the blaze in Easton was reported just after 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Officials said an adult and a child were pronounced dead at the scene. Several others were taken to hospitals, including one to the burn unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The blaze in a portion of a three-story building was reported under control at 2:10 a.m. Monday and was later extinguished.

Fire officials at the scene the cause of the blaze was under investigation, and it was unclear whether there were working smoke detectors in the home.
