UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) — A benefit concert featuring tribute artists and friends has raised about $9,000 to establish a scholarship named for the late singer-songwriter Jim Croce (CROH'-chee) at the eastern Pennsylvania high school he attended.

More than 800 people attended "Time in a Bottle, A Tribute to Jim Croce" Saturday night at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

The Delaware County Daily Times ( ) reports the money will establish a scholarship fund at Upper Darby High School. Croce graduated from the school in 1960.

Croce, famous for hits including "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," ''Time In A Bottle", and "Operator", died at age 30 in a plane crash on Sept. 20, 1973 following a concert at Northwestern State University in Louisiana.
