A look at Corbett's Medicaid and health care plan

September 16, 2013
Associated Press

Details of Gov. Tom Corbett's "Health PA" initiative, outlined on Monday.

— WORKING-AGE ADULTS: Use federal Medicaid expansion dollars to pay the premiums for newly eligible adults to get private insurance in a new health care marketplace instead of expanding the traditional Medicaid coverage.

— UNEMPLOYED: Require working-age, able-bodied Medicaid enrollees who are unemployed to search for work.

— MEDICAID: Scale back benefits for working-age adults currently on Medicaid and replace most co-pays with premiums to encourage use of primary care doctors instead of emergency rooms.

— HEALTH CARE CLINICS: Seek additional federal money to expand community health care clinics and their services.

— CHILDREN: Ask Legislature to eliminate a six-month waiting period without insurance before a child can get coverage through the Children's Health Insurance Program.
