Police: Philly shooting stemmed from fender-bender

September 5, 2013
Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say an overnight shooting in southwest Philadelphia stemmed from a fender-bender.

A police spokeswoman said two cars got into an accident in the Elmwood section of the city just before midnight Wednesday, and a 37-year-old driver fled.

She said the other driver, a 48-year-old man, tried to approach him and was attacked, and the older man drew a handgun.

Police said the weapon, for which the man had a permit, apparently discharged accidentally, wounding the 37-year-old man.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.

Police said no charges had been filed in the incident, which was originally suspected as a possible road rage case.
