Ms. Swanson, I recall my early years also. Minimum wage was $1.25 and that is what I was paid pumping gas, which was 30 cents a gallon at the time. I could buy a little over 4 gallons of gas per each hour I worked. At today's minimum wage rate of $7.25, you can buy less than 2 gallons of gas per each hour of work. At todays gas price, a person would have to earn $15.83 per hour to buy as much gas as in 1971. What part of "the minimum wage needs raised" do you not understand? Like most that watch fox news, you believe the poor people are at fault while the rich are laughing all the way to wallstreet. Do some research of how the rich are the ones reaping the benefits and investors are making record profits off the backs of the very people who are making it for them. Start by reading the Robert Reich articles in this very newspaper.
