Well said Heydrich. sometimes the politically correct mindset really goes way too far overboard.

SS = Nazis? Really? Gimmie a break!

Society has become FAR too sensitive. SS has been Social Security, SS has been Super Sport (Camaro SS, Impala SS, Chevelle SS), SS has been on the windshields of drag racers for 50+ years (Super Stock). SS is everywhere and has nothing to do with Nazi Germany. The war ended nearly 70 years ago. Let it go. ALL symbols have meant different things good and bad at different points in history. Can we just live in TODAY so we don't have to alter Boy Scout emblems, too?

They should give the one in Sheffield an alliterative name like "Sheffield School," or S.S.

That really has a nice ring to it.

Dubedit, thinking of tiona and Clarendon in your opinion of this was great insight. That's what I was trying to convey to the board, that there has to be an easy solution that is more appropriate.

A way around "SS" and an acknowledgement of Clarendon, Tiona, etc., is "Sheffield Area School" or "SAS." Ditto for Eisenhower; "EAS." Speaking personally, I'd drop the K-12 as clumsy. Just refer to the elementary wing or the secondary wing when needed. But that's just me.

Just so we are clear, it was not I that made that leap alone. First, the director put those initials next to the consolidated school name on the working document the board was using Monday night. Its on the electronic school board. I've asked many people what they think without making the judgment first and they all see the same thing. Racism is very alive in todays world and especially in Warren county. The initials of a school are important. They will go on shirts, jackets, team uniforms, etc. These schools are forming into a new entity, let parents and students pick. Use it to build excitement and morale. Yesterday, a Sheffield parent suggested on Facebook Sheffield Central School. It was a great suggestion!
