Right, because the overcrowding problem has nothing to do with the War on Drugs, and is mainly due to the fact that jails are overflowing with death row inmates.

As Mr. Rozelle suggests, if we must have capital punishment, let it be by firing squad. Today's technology would eliminate the need for volunteers to perform the act of firing the rifles. A computer-controlled "eye" could align the rifles to fire accurately, with an almost imperceptible margin of error.

I saw two people beheaded in Saudi Arabia. Their law allows for 30 days to appeal a death penalty, then execution. No prison overcrowding there. No wasted millions on legal battles and snarled courts. IF, repeat IF, the accused is caught red handed and there is NO doubt, there should be no delays in execution. A 20 year wait for justice is crazy. Justice delayed is justice denied. In this day of DNA evidence, accuracy of guilt is almost flawless. Overcrowded prisons? Let them "hot bunk" like the Navy used to do. One bunk shared by 3 inmates, each gets it 8 hrs per day. Cheaper than building more prisons, and good enough for our men in uniform who could abide by our laws.

This Ohio man's family complained of "cruel and unusual punishment" and are suing for $ millions. I suggest that the perpetrator sets the standard. Evaluate the level of cruelty in his/her crime and let the punishment be comparable, no more and no less. In cases of rape, I suggest that the perp be chemically paralyzed, then locked in a room with the victim for a comparable amount of time as the rape. Whatever happens there, happens. If the victim forgives, so be it. If the victim castrates the perp, oh well, he should have thought about that before.
