Tourism politics?

November 15, 2013

Dear editor: Late Friday evening I was surprised when I drove into Starbrick and saw the Warren County Visitors Bureau (WCVB) sign displaying “GO KNIGHTS” on each side....

Put the Starbrick vacation building up for sale. My point ,they are a fun,fun organization, and a complete joke.Forget WCVB and WCCBI,they are a joke.Close that money sucking VB down.

There is a shocker, somebody in Warren County making a mountain out of a mole hill. Simple explanation is that an alumni works there. It is nothing more than that, but people here ALWAYS look too far into things. Tourism Politics...really? Can't this stupid thing be over with? I am so tired of reading about it and the asinine comments people have. There are more important things happening than the "Good Ole' Boys" club trying to take money that doesn't belong to them, which again, real shocker.

asinine or not, I would like to hear of any great businesses that have moved to warren co. wccbi/ cot has not increased the amount of tourism to this county that much. but neither has the wcvb. the money that is plowed into these two entities should have born some tangible results by now. but they have not. try to find any info at a kiosk in the surrounding areas and you wont. they say that's inefficient but their web site's both stink. then try a google or bing search for warren co. next to nothing. they both are not worth their money. and I think that it all boils down to securing jobs for themselves and nothing to do with promotions.

I would also note that the Starbrick road isn't one that would be well traveled by Eisenhower folks. They'd go East by way of 957 to Corry. Not like the buses were passing through Warren on the way to Corry on would think. The problems are well enumerated with regard to WCVB. Let's just face it we are confronted with two bad choices. Mr. Papalia has done a pretty good job on the event side of things, he may do well with tourism as well. The problem is the leadership of WCCBI gets an "F" and I'm being generous with that grade when it comes to economic development. The Commissioners should take the bed tax and hire an economic development person since the WCCBI seemingly has no interest in that arena.

What to do with the "bed tax" money?

A) WCVB

B) WCCBI

I've got to believe it will be a serious mistake not to strongly consider:

C) Somebody Else

There has to be a better idea. I'd be in favor of banking the money until a new plan is hatched and finalized. Look at their history. The bang for the bucks we'll get from the competing alphabet groups will be marginal at best.
