Backwoods-I was actually very surprised that I had nothing but nice, supportive comments on my letter. And I bet you are correct - I (with my letter) and you folks (with your comments) struck a nerve with this person, who couldn't even take the time to commment on why they disagree. Thanks again for your support folks.

One individual chose to disagree with all three of us that commented on this letter. I’ll bet that they are the type of person that does not volunteer for anything but this one of the first to complain about everything.

Well said!

There are many ways that people can be part of the solution. Sitting around complaining is not one of them.

Mrs Darr is correct on many items. Many do not relize that VFD's require more help to run than just people to fight a fire or run an ambulance. There fundraisers, building repairs, book keeping, general clean up, snow removal, the list is endless. For someone to say that they have nothing to offer because they dont want to fight fires, they just dont relize all the work these volunteers really do to keep a fire department up and running. Even if you can only contribute 1 or 2 hours a year, it is help that will be appreciated. So stop down to your local VFD on a drill night, and offer your services.

Mrs. Darr, I commend you on a very well written letter that is full of heart-felt words. You have broached a subject that many may not be familiar with or do not understand, and that is the countless hours given by volunteers to public service.

I would like to give a great big “THANK YOU” to all of those who, un-selfishly give of there time and self to our VFD’s and Rescue Services. WELL DONE
