We have 30 chickens, in the country. My suggestions: 1. No roosters. 2. Well-ventilated coops; don't close them up tight, use dirt floors with deep litter, TURN IT once a week. Maximum number of hens, 6. Poults, 4. And use the "barking dog" nuisance ordinance idea.

Allow chickens; while I like roosters, and have one now, I'd support the ban on roosters as they do make noise early in the morning and if it is not your rooster, I understand how it can be annoying. No need for rules on how close to property and how many, just enforce normal "Humane" standards. I clean my chickens once a week and they don't smell. Less regulation is better. On a different note, I disagree with dog licensing as well. What is the need? Just to collect a fee? Why are cats, which are a far greater nuisance (when they have cat fights and crap in my garden), than dogs are. Again, neither dogs or cats should be roaming free, but no need to license them. Just require individual ID tags commercially purchased (not a license) and rabbis tag.

I've had chicken ever since I was 9, they where a bantam hen & 6 chicks give to me by a neighbor. I joined the 4-H and showed my fowl at the County Fair. Over the years I've raised many different breeds from very small to extra heavies. Kids who join 4-H and raise and show chickens are less likely to get into trouble and learn responsibility. Instead of building a chicken coop I use a plastic 55 gallon barrel which I cut a 12" square hole about 12" from the bottom. I put a pair of hinges and a latch on the piece I cut out to use as a door that I close at night keeping the chicken safe. I fasten a tie cord to a hole drilled in the barrel top and the other end to the one of the chickens legs. Tie cords have a swivel in them so the cord doesn't get tangled up and can be bought online. A 10ft tie cord will give a chicken the same area as a 16ft x 20ft cage and a lot cheaper to build. Dirt in the bottom for weight with pine shavings on top and a 2x2 fasten inside for a roost.

You have to be kidding me!

If you want to raise chickens buy a farm or at least some acreage in the county.

Chickens don't belong next to your neighbor's house.

Open this can of worms and you may just end up with a pig sty next door. How stupid.

Oh and the biggest problem I have with it?

No one enforces the all the silly laws on the books as it is. Who the heck will enforce these laws?

Same people that enforce the snow removal and lawn cutting laws? Yeah, that's why I'm worried.

Fortunately, I keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency.

The warren county zoning ordinance covers the municipalities of Boroughs: Clarendon, Sugar Grove, and Tidioute. The townships of: Columbus,Conewango,Eldred,Elk,Glade,Mead,Pine Grove,Pleasant, and Southwest. I live within one of the townships and I have chickens(for 3years now) my closest neighbors(opposite side of the road) don't care, they like my chickens, my closest neighbor on my side of the road has a farm! I feel as tho if your neighbors don't care and you take proper care of your animals you should be able to have them.My chickens are helping my children learn responsibility and how to care for something besides themselves.
