It’s almost as if you automatically start with a feeling of uneasiness over any action this School Board President and Board takes. After all as the Times Observer states; This Board tried to keep secret and hidden from the Public the real reasons Mr. Hufnagel was asked to leave. They then considered reimbursing him for trips home more important than funding educational programs. After that they considered paying $10,000 a month in bonuses more important than funding educational programs. They pass a restrictive transfer policy by an overwhelming vote and then a few weeks later pass a revised less restrictive bill by an overwhelming vote. They pump 16 million dollars into a crumbling middle school. CONTINUED

Then they contract with a consultant group for the Superintendent search which nets a grand total of 10 candidates. They interview one and we have yet to hear what positive affect that candidate had in either of his previous positions. We hear he left his last position under less than ideal circumstances, certainly not a disqualifier, but our Board is telling us that for one of the most visible and most important positions in our County we are going seriously consider a grand total of one candidate. One wonders if the dearth of candidates is related to a faulty search, the demand for Superintendents outstripping the supply, or maybe the fact that any worthy candidate that did a modicum of research would steer as clear as possible from this County. Oh also have to love that we might have another candidate who'll be driving to a far away home every Friday afternoon and returning on Sunday nights.

As a taxpayer, I want to know under what circumstances he left his last post. He can state facts and be transparent without bad-mouthing his former employer, as per their agreement. I also think he should be required to move to Warren County, within 6 months, perhaps.

Too late, it doesn't matter, the board did what they wanted and could care less about anything else.

I actually have gone to a SB meeting before I was committed to an evening 2nd job to be able to afford to live here. If you want to ask them a question, you have to write it down ahead of time before the meeting, then they choose whether or not to address it.

Donna, the board will not answer questions during a SB meeting. If they do, it is rare. To ask questions and be involved in the discussion, you need to attend committee meetings. The committee meetings are work session and the public is able to raise their hand and voice opinion and ask questions during the entire meeting, not just during public comment like regular SB meetings. Committee meetings are the most important, it is the work before the bote. You will rarely change a board members mind during public comment because by then they have decided how they want to vote. The SB meeting is solely for the voting.

WTO, I was thinking the same. Thanks for publishing this. School Taxes are Very costly to those without large incomes, and many that also have no children. How about pay if you play for School Taxes?

Tired1 - Schools are a community's responsibility. Pay for Play doesn't work. Here's why - I don't use the TAWC buses so I don't want to subsidize them. I don't use Senior housing so I don't want to subsidize them. I don't fly so I don't want to pay for air traffic controllers, I don't use County Human Services programs so I don't want to subsidize those, I don't hunt so I don't want to have a game commission, have State game lands etc.
