FUNNY -- How can someone "disagree" with writer10's comment "Never knew about this"? Hilarious. Was the disagree placed there by his scolding mother who distinctly remembers telling him (or her) about it?

Thank you for writing about this important and scandalous but completely buried piece of history, Neil.

The Liberty was in international waters, and it was brutally attacked by our "ally". Spying? The attack was so persistent and overwhelming, meant to leave no one alive on the obvious American ship. It would have looked like the enemy of our "friends" had done the deed if they had been successful instead of the Israelis. Of course they were sorry. Mostly that it didn't drag us into their happy little war.

While I don't condone the action, you forgot to mention this was US spy mission and all survivng members were ordered not to talk about the incident and Israel did say it was a mistake. Can you count the USA military mistakes over the past few wars?
