Bravo, SaveOurSchools! The fear of a "mega school" is mathematically impossible and always has been. (Let alone the overlooked advantages of larger schools.)

Again, just to give a comparison from the outside world:

Our new school district is 28,000+ and growing. There are seven high schools and three alternative ed-type high schools. Taking total population and dividing it by the basic high schools (7), gives a rough total of 4,000+/ high school. WCSD has 4500+ total in the entire district but has four high schools. My daughter's high school just graduated a few over 300. While many anti-consolidation folks would call that a "mega school", I would point out that they offer MANY Honors and AP classes, at least a dozen athletic teams, class sizes < 25, multiple world languages, etc.

Compare that the the WCSD and the offerings in the high schools there. Then, remind yourself that the WCSD kids are competing against my kids for scholarships and jobs.

Unfortunately, round up, the joke is on our kids. It is the sad realization that we are OK with putting almost 1,000 elementary kids in one building but because of rivalries and agendas that are furthered by selfishness our high school kids, the ones we should be preparing for the world are bound by the chains of mascots and school colors. The sad realization that people use the excise of not wanting a mega school but yet the numbers prove that to be completely impossible.

When I graduated in 1969, we had 501 students in our graduating class.

Our class in 1960 was 350 or so (old high school). My guess is that Warren could hold all the students in the entire county.
