$100, $400, $1,000 - I think the citizens can afford to cover veteran ceremonies. It's the least we can do. Fees for other groups is fine.

I think city council needs to reconsider this and make the honorable choice.

I think most if not all will agree!

I really liked this letter. Plus mentioning about being fair, it cracked me up when the city used that as a defense.

It's called a money grab. Anyone notice that since we got a new city manager, that doesn't even live here and doesn't want to move her family here, existing fees have been raised and new ones created for all of the parks. Check with the 4th of July commitee to see what the city wants to charge them to set off the fireworks at Betts.

I don't disagree. I think that the Veterans also maintained the park before the City stepped in.

Mtomto that is what a city council member told me when I brought the subject up. I'm sorry it just isn't right to charge the vets to use a public park. We (my wife and I) drove to smethport to Dj a benefit for Crosby legion which burned to the ground in January. We did this free of charge for them, why? Because these people fought and died for our freedoms! Isn't that a high enough cost to them? I think the city even suggesting charging them should be a crime!

The Veterans were paying the electric bill and according to WTO article it was about $ 400.00 per year.

Thank you Dick! Nice letter. Just remember come election time. It is all about the money! I was told they burn $100 of electric and the city doesn't feel they should have to pay for that! I will hear about this post I'm sure, but I'm sorry these men fought and died for our freedoms and that isn't worth $100 worth of electric. Sad isn't it?
