Dear editor, You know I’m really shocked, I found out recently that our city of Warren is trying to tax Calvary Chapel Church....

I agree 100% Mr E. You should get used to it. His Word clearly tells us that in the last days, believers will be persecuted. This is just a start.

So you're poor. Deal with it. You still need to have the road plowed, the police come when called, etc. As far as "His Word" goes, "Render unto Caesar..." and YOU should be ashamed of yourselves for wanting to live off the taxes of others rather than paying your fair share. Parasites.

Matthew 22:21

Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

Even your Jesus wants you to pay your taxes.

"The whole process as to how this came about is pretty suspicious to begin with and I don't think it's ethical and maybe not legal" Just because you don't understand the process does not make it suspicious, unethical, or not legal. To many in Warren County have gotten a free ride at the expense of the other taxpayers. This is nothing new just google "property taxes Allegheny County Pa" or "Erie County Pa". If so many were not taking advantage of the exemption there would not of been a need for a complete review of ALL the PROPERTY TAX EXEMPT PROPERTIES.

Last I looked Calvary Chapel is in Russell not the City of Warren. Is the writer from Calvary Baptist or Calvary Chapel?

Persecuted!? Really!?

Every president of this country has claimed affiliation with your religion.

Every holiday you celebrate is marked on the calendar for nearly the entire country as a day off.

Stores are closed on your sabbath day.

77% of the country identifies themselves as christian.

And you! You claim to be persecuted because the rest of us (and many of your own) think you should not be treated any different than everyone else!?

You are not a martyr. This is not persecution. This is equality.

I think the writer was referring to Warren County. The Rouse is under the same situation and they are in Youngsville. Of course that brings a whole new twist as the Rouse Board of Directors has commissioners sitting on it.

Another misinformed writer. None of the Churches in Warren County are taxed if they fit the definition of Church. The Church building and parking lot are not assessed for taxing. If the Church owns other buildings or land used for something else then that is a different matter. Go and check the assessment office before you believe what someone is telling you.

Well then the writer should become well informed enough to know who the taxing body that he's referring to his before he starts casting stones at the wrong one.

I agree and I was also confused as to who the writer was trying to persecute?

"Even your Jesus wants you to pay your taxes." Individuals who attend the churches DO pay taxes "unto Caesar". The donations churches receive have already been taxed! Are you advocating eliminating ALL tax exemptions for ALL non-profit organizations? (That would have saved the IRS its current broo-ha-ha.) "...paying your fair share. Parasites." Are you advocating a national consumption tax where EVERYONE must pay? Where 47% are not allowed to be "parasites"?

Flat tax where EVERYONE pays the same rate? No deductions. (NONE!!) No exemptions. (NONE!) No un-taxed "under the table" jobs while receiving SSI and SNAP. No EIC!!! I suspect those screaming about "fair" are the biggest cheaters and parasites.

"Stores are closed on your sabbath day." Walmart will be happy to hear this. Name one locale where "blue laws" are enforced

I believe that the "Salted, May-17-13 12:10 PM" post is correct, and that assessment IS fair. I know of a church that once owned 3 or 4 other properties not associated with its non-profit functions. Taxes were paid on them. Fair.

stonewall: "Name one locale where 'blue laws' are enforced"

Pennsylvania: Until very recently you could not buy liquor from state stores on sunday.

Car dealerships are also closed on Sunday as per law.

Blue laws are admittedly waning but many are still in effect.

Regardless, my original point still stands: believers are not being persecuted.

"This is not persecution. This is equality." Glad to see at least one other person who advocates the flat tax where all rates are EQUAL for ALL. Thank you.
