Moral decline

May 15, 2013

Dear Editor, As I observe what’s going on in our nation and in the world, I can’t help but come away with a deep inner realization that our course is not sustainable....

Morality is subjective. But this country is working on its downward sloop. By trying to be a nanny state and legislating us into the history books. Humans have been doing this from the time the first towns started to pop up upon this world and we the U.S.A will destroy are selves from within. Governments rise and fall and most of the time the people who run said governments or the people of said governments are to blame. In our case it will be we the people. We voted for our government. The U.S.A. is not know, what it was when are founding fathers created this country and we will never be able to go back to that government. People in power will never allow it.

I have no time for a deity that refuses to show any evidence of it's existence, creates me in a fashion that requires evidence before I accept something, then condemns me for it.

Like I said before, you are free to worship as you see fit, just keep your crazy out of my cereal.

My heart aches for those who have been told the TRUTH and reject it. One day they will answer to their maker. As the article stated, one day EVERY knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. For those who rejected Him, and eternity in*****awaits them. Soon, but no man knows when. God bless your day, people.

Rancor, couldn't agree more. I'm equally baffled by people being so adamant that they have the "right" religion. By far, people are only the religion they are because of where they were born and to whom they were born. If stonewall and TCAngel had been born in Pakistan, they'd be Muslim (97% of population). If they had been born in India, they'd likely be Hindu. They are likely Christian because that's what they were trained to believe, and have never questioned that brainwashing, I mean training. Very few people study all the religions of the world and then choose one. However, there are an ever increasing number of people who break out of their training when they realize that the reality of science makes a lot more sense than the myths of religion.

And, that poor little mermaid. She only wanted to be human.

"Are you advocating the murder of the little mermaid?"

Who framed Roger Rabbit?

Are you advocating the murder of the little mermaid? Seems a bit harsh, but what the heck, I'm game. (Who does she think she is anyhow?)

I am still not sure why you think that just because someone doesn't go to church and believe in your version of god, they must be immoral. Religion has consistently been a breeding ground for immorality, hatred, and bigotry (both past and present) more than any other idea or concept.

You can keep your gods, I will do the right thing BECAUSE it is the right thing, not out of fear of punishment.

Sorry back at you, stonewall. Morality isn't a belief system. It's a subjective set of behaviors determined to be acceptable by a culture or subculture.

Sorry BrookP, but the gov't DOES sponsor "just one belief system". It's called immorality, and as Mr. H. stated, it is growing stronger and stronger with each passing day. I would sincerely be hard pressed to find another letter with which I agree more than this one. All facets are spot-on. As some of you have stated, we are all free to choose. Go ahead, choose eternal damnation. I wish you wouldn't, but it's your choice. "As for me and my House, we will serve the Lord."

The writer is certainly entitled to believe what he wants. Fortunately, others have the right to disagree. I like that the government protects the public by not sponsoring just one belief system. That's one of the reasons our country was formed. There is also at least 100 other religions and non-believers, worldwide, that would disagree that Christianity controls the moral fiber of the world, or nation. Morality is subjective, anyway, and doesn't require religion to exist. Also, many things can change a heart besides a god. Plus, I don't see a downward spiral. I see a human race, amazing and ingenious, capable of learning and adapting to survive and fix the wrongs of previous generations. Humans have countered many of the wrongs previously justified by religion, such as slavery, inequality of women, beating children to behave, interracial marriage, etc.

In reality violent crime is this country is actually down not up. The internet has allowed for the stories to spread so people feel that the crime rate is higher. Causing way too many people to be paranoid and treating their children like prisoners in order to protect them. These children will not grow up to be very healthy as a result.

I have seen the light and error of my sinful ways.

You have every right to worship and believe as you see fit (heck I will even fight for your right to do so.)

But, if you promise not to use your fictitious book to dictate mores and laws than, I promise not to help make sure the Quran, Torah, Tipitaka, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, etc are not allowed to do the same.

Look at yourself for moral decline. The decline comes from individuals. Your god and jesus have nothing to do with anything you wrote about. Moral decline is caused by religious zealots like you who seek others to blame other than yourself.
