Postal Service

April 24, 2013

I haven’t seen it mentioned in this column before, so I might have missed it, or maybe no one else wonders about it. If the USPS is going broke, wanting to cut deliveries, raise postage, etc....

At the time of advertising with Lance Armstrong, the USPS was expanding their parcel delivery service, They were trying to improve their market share. As for the military service, they use it as a recruiting tool. In business, if you are not growing, then you are doomed to fail. You may not agree with their choice in advertising, but I'm sure both feel they got the exposure they wanted.

Well it's been nine years since they actually sponsored his team. In 2004 sponsorship of his team was taken over by the Discovery channel and then Radio Shack.

Just sayin'

Also the USPS spent $40 million sponsoring the team.

You might be interested to know this:

Previous studies done for the Postal Service concluded the agency reaped at least $139 million in worldwide brand exposure in four years -- $35 million to $40 million for sponsoring the Armstrong team in 2001; $38 million to $42 million in 2002; $31 million in 2003; and $34.6 million in 2004.

I'd say they got what they paid for.

I used to ship via UPS because it was cheaper. Now I boycott UPS go with FEDEX or USPS. UPS pulled support for the Boy Scouts until they decide to sell out their founding values, become politically correct, and recognize some purported "rights". You know what I mean. Sad days in America.

Service from UPS around here has been terrible, been trying to get a package picked up for over a month. Have it sitting on the porch only to find notes on the door that they came for the package. Umm look at your feet. Then the one time I was home the truck stopped out front, driver not got out and off he went. Now Dish is charging me $300.000 for a box that is not being used and waiting and waiting for UPS. Phone calls to them has yielded no results. I will never use them by my own choosing.

The USPS sponsored Lance Armstrong as an advertisement for the same reason (name the business here) advertises: An attempt to make money(s). Nothing new here and it happens all the time. I believe I just heard where the USPS is starting a lawsuit against Mr. Armstrong for false representation to the tune of +100 million US dollars. Yikes!

The Postal Service is being forced to pre-pay their pension program decades ahead by Congress. Frankly, I don't give a flying crap that they sponsored Armstrong; they aren't now. What I want and really like is Saturday delivery. Personally, I think the US Mail is the best bargain going. Congressman Issa (R-CA) is one of the chief detractors on the Postal Service. Guess who he gets lobby $$ from?? Wonder why he wants to kill the USPS??
