People like you are so naive. There is no movement to get rid of the 2nd amendment. There are 300 million guns on the ground in America. That is a fact nd it will always be that way. Your knee jerk reaction to things you hear on the news is just as naive as your letter. There is ABSOULUTLEY no reason for automatic weapons in this country. No one is trying to take your guns away. Be a good citizen and bring up some facts, support those who are at least trying to stop the production and sale of a needless weapon in our society.

Since, work is canceled for me here at Ft Meade due to the weather, lets have a little fun today! If these so called assault weapons have no place in our society why are Cops allowed to have them for there job? This is going to be good.

"Once again, there is no movement to get rid of your 2nd amendment rights."

"If I could have banned them all - 'Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns' - I would have!" - Diane Feinstein

"We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing who has them we can do that. If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime." - Vermont State Senator Mary Ann Carlson

"We're going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!" - U.S. Representative Charles Schumer

"Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal." - U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno

Of course there's always something called context but it's always so much easier to ignore what the United States was like when the Constitution was written over 200 years ago, what "arms" consisted of then, and what the State of the militia and threats to our borders were during the nascent period of our Country.

It really is a slow news day, eh? The gun-nuts have been crying wolf my entire life! Just to clarify, I own several guns and always will, but it doesn't DEFINE me as a person. Single issue conservatives like the letter-writer are low-information citizens.

Once again the issue is shown to be all about the difference between liberal and conservative politics and NOTHING about safety. Thanks garypayton for pointing out that you think anyone who favors 2nd amendment rights must be a conservative. Why is that if the issue is safety as we are bring led to believe.

I love how liberals always want to tell otheres what they need. Well if you are hunting wild boar in the south, they use semi automatic rifles. So just because YOU don't need or want something, how does that give you the right to tell someone else what they need?

I'm not upset with those you quote compared to your heros.

"The sponsor of the law that made it legal to carry a gun into bars in Tennessee is facing charges of possession of a handgun while under the influence and drunken driving.

Rep. Curry Todd, a Collierville Republican, was pulled over in Nashville late Tuesday, according to court documents. Police said he failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. A loaded .38-caliber gun was found in a holster stuffed between the driver's seat and center console".

When the 2nd ammendment was added to the constitution, were cannons forbidden to own? Did they outlaw explosive rounds fired from cannons? These were the most powerful weapons of the day, but they were not outlawed with the 2nd ammendment. They were not needed for hunting or personal protection. They are needed to defend oneself, and one's country, from government (foriegn or domestic) and that is the point of the 2nd ammendment. You will please note that it does not reference hunting, personal defense, or sport. Maybe it is those opposed that do not understand the context of the ammendment.

Who said Curry Todd was one of my heros? Oh, right that was you. If someone drives with a loaded gun in their car, that makes them stoopid, not a hero IMO.

You are welcome! Sorry you are all so scared of everything. Must be a tough way to go through life. Question: What's the difference between personal defense defending oneself? You can only read so much between the lines. Are you all members of a well regulated militia too??

A militia is an autonomous group of armed citizens formed to ensure the seccurity of a free state. To create a militia, the citizens first must be armed.

You can form your own. They are to be properly chartered with rules and bylaws in accordance with the constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Otherwise, you can join one of the miltias already formed.

Or were you being sarcastic? I have a hard time telling when people are being sarcastic or if they actually want to know something.

For those people that do not want guns, don't get a gun. I am not forcing you to get one. If you really believe that by putting a ban on guns, they will automatically disappear and this country would be a safer place. Go on thinking that if you want. The majority of guns used by criminals are either stolen or black market. So how are the laws and banning doing any good? The places that have the toughest laws are the places that have the most crime due to guns.

I am a smoker. I smoke in my house and in my car. If you do not want me to smoke in your house or in your car that is your right. Do not come into my house or car and tell me I can not smoke. We ALL have the same rights. I have no problem in respecting your rights, so respect mine.
