Excellent letter! Small wonder Corbett is bottoming out in the polls. It was to be expected from "Landfill Tommy". Anyone but Corbett in 2014.

"Compare that statistic to the seedy little shops in New York that are hit more often than 7-11's."
You may have to include a portion of the 7-11 hold ups as they sell beer in NYS also?

I do not see people (regularly) stumbling along our sidewalks or being arrested in their cars due to a lack of intoxicating beverages. Alas, let's make it even easier to buy beer and hootch. I might add, how many times has our liquor store been robbed? Compare that statistic to the seedy little shops in New York that are hit more often than 7-11's.

Well then Frugal, it sounds like you lack the basic qualifications to pass any judgment on the economics of liquor pricing vis a vis public vs. private.

Bottom line the governor is trying to eliminate unions. His goal to privatize liquor stores is because he wants to eliminate all union jobs. He may try to win over education advocates by dangling the education dollars carrot and hope that education union workers are stupid enough to agree with him. A few months later, he comes up with a plan to gut the teachers union. Union workers will need to unite!

Something dry and light. Pinot Gris or perhaps a good dry French Rose if you can find one. Cheers.

Thanks, Gary, always the helpful one.
What would you recommend for breakfast? Eggs, sausage, hash browns, and white toast?

You should buy a case of bubbly next time. That would be six years before you have to go back to the liquor store! Joking. Public or private sales?? Six of one, half dozen of another. Private liquor sales would be so over-regulated that it won't make much difference in price, selection or service. My concern is the recent trend (in this and other states) to tie public education to tobacco, alcohol, and gambling. What message does that send to the kids??

Frugaltaxpayer...have you purchased liquor in New York state recently???
I would like to see the PA State stores expanded to include the sale of cigarettes....that certainly would help limit accessability to our children.

You may be right, but does it make it right for any government to be doing something that private enterprise can do better and cheaper?

frugal taxpayer, if you worked for the liquor board, i'll bet a dollar to a doughnut we wouldn't be reading letters like this from you. but that's my opinion.

Plain and simple. The state should not be in the business of selling liquor. The only reason there is even an argument about it is the labor union is worried about losing the jobs. But these jobs will be replaced by other, possibly non-union jobs. The products will be cheaper, and the state will profit more from the taxes collected than they do now.
