I do not see people (regularly) stumbling along our sidewalks or being arrested in their cars due to a lack of intoxicating beverages. Alas, let's make it even easier to buy beer and hootch. I might add, how many times has our liquor store been robbed? Compare that statistic to the seedy little shops in New York that are hit more often than 7-11's.

Bottom line the governor is trying to eliminate unions. His goal to privatize liquor stores is because he wants to eliminate all union jobs. He may try to win over education advocates by dangling the education dollars carrot and hope that education union workers are stupid enough to agree with him. A few months later, he comes up with a plan to gut the teachers union. Union workers will need to unite!

You should buy a case of bubbly next time. That would be six years before you have to go back to the liquor store! Joking. Public or private sales?? Six of one, half dozen of another. Private liquor sales would be so over-regulated that it won't make much difference in price, selection or service. My concern is the recent trend (in this and other states) to tie public education to tobacco, alcohol, and gambling. What message does that send to the kids??

Plain and simple. The state should not be in the business of selling liquor. The only reason there is even an argument about it is the labor union is worried about losing the jobs. But these jobs will be replaced by other, possibly non-union jobs. The products will be cheaper, and the state will profit more from the taxes collected than they do now.
