Gun control?

February 25, 2013

Dear editor: Why is it that every time there is a tragedy or emergency of some kind, the government wants to take something away from us? For example, the 9/11 terrorist attack took our personal......

We live in a society where you can no longer breath without being told you are doing something wrong. This attitude is being pushed onto the youth more and more in this country. Yet; we wonder why they would grow up wanting to blast away at the people around them. The more you try to over control, the less control you will truly have. Just look at how schools are enacting more and more rules, the end result, drop out rates are on the rise. Parents, teaches, and the like need to stop putting so much pressure on perfection in this country.

kudos on a very well written article. I totally agree with the idea that you can't legislate love, but you can responsibility. Give people the knowledge they need to bring up people with the knowledge that they need and the whole world would be better off.

Man, my violin is getting worn out. Once again, there is no movement to get rid of your 2nd amendment rights. One scary stat is there are 300 million guns on the ground in the USA. Do you really think the government can do anything about that? There is absoulutely no REASON to have automatic guns in America. I recently walked by the gun department in Wal Mart and I was apalled at how many people were there buying cases of ammo and guns, get over it people.

Reasonrules, you haven't been able to buy automatic weapons in America since the National Firearms Act was passed in 1934.....

"Will our medical records be fair game? If so, who has access to those records?"

You didn't read the Obamacare bill (law) did you? Well, if you have to pass the bill to find out what's in the bill, it is a small wonder.

Excellent Letter! Reasonrules, because of Obama-Biden runing off half-cocked after the shooting, people are buying up everything they can! If reason would have ruled, this buying spree would not have happened.

"Once again, there is no movement to get rid of your 2nd amendment rights."

"If I could have banned them all - 'Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns' - I would have!" - Diane Feinstein

"We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing who has them we can do that. If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime." - Vermont State Senator Mary Ann Carlson

"We're going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!" - U.S. Representative Charles Schumer

"Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal." - U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno

Hah, nobody wants to take your guns.

Anyone that doesn't think this is just the first step to kill the 2nd amendment is a fool! Once they start they won't stop. Want prove? Bush took how many of our rights with the patriot act after 9/11. Now they are after our right to own guns! Don't kid yourself! Take off those rose colored glasses and see the real picture of what's happening right under your nose! How can people be so blind?

The foot in the door! The slippery slope. My Grandfather used to say the same things about Kennedy and Carter 40 years ago! The sky is falling!!! Repeating lame old talking points is an exercise in futility. Kudos? No, cut and paste.

Liberal politicians in every state including this one have introduced bills calling for the confiscation of all handguns and semi-auto and pump rifles and shotguns at one time or another. The mere fact that rational thinking folks have beat them back in most cases doesn't mean the liberals haven't tried in the past and they are still trying today.

Over 3,000 new gun laws have been proposed by the individual states since Sandy Hook and many of them include outright bans on various firearms and magazines. Play that violin all you want reasonrules but try playing it correctly for a change.
