Anyone notice all the decisions the city has made over the years regarding money and development,have back fired.Business locating to the north,rather than submit to the cities whims.Major development issues with lawsuits,grand jury enditements.Seems the harder they try the worse the outcome.Eventually the tax base will no longer be able to afford it.

Besides Sam those costs are arbritary costs and services that the City decides upon what is necessary in their role as a governmental body. Not always a really independent judgment. The event appears to be held hostage to the whims of the City. Look around. Many cities and towns provide no police coverage for special events unless there is an incident. Obviously I know a parade is different because of re-routing. One would think the city's role is to foster and support these sorts of events that make a town a more interesting place to live not put impediments in front of them. What was last year's cost versus the cost of an Assistant City Manager?

I think the parade is great - however we just passed an ordinance 6-1 requiring that all special event organizers pay for the actual overtime costs they create with the event. The law applies to everyone equally. If the City is going to donate your tax dollars to the parade committee I think it would have been reasonable to delay this donation long enough to look for other sources of funding (or manpower support).

The PSERS! Their retirements were in similar instruments as the private sectors. While the private sector people have to grin and bear the loud sucking sound of their retirements going down the drain with the downturn, the PSERS should be guaranteed?

Freenook and Harvey should get a clue, you can ask for money from surrounding municipalities, but I dont see any of them thinking its a good idea. Many businesses do very well that day staying open on the Fourth. Perhaps if more did they could showcase their products. Maybe offer discounts, show the public they can and will compete with Walmart, instead of complaining about how little foot traffic there is downtown.

These bands and floats are the effort of alot of people working hard .Alot of people step up to make the parade happen. Warren is not the only town spending money.If you do not want the parade then say so.Charging for something after 65 years will surely put a end to it.Is this what the city wants?You want all these events to come in and entice people to spend money.But in the end its all about the money.

WHY NOT FORGET THE PARADE ALL TOGETHER? It's all firetrucks,elected officials,and the same old bands.It will give you a chance to get out and visit other towns,as some came to Warren for.Get my drift?
