That's like saying the purpose of sports cars is to go out; race them and crash.

Umm, when stopping a brush or forest fire, they do burn the ground ahead of it with fire.

Actually, if you discount battles over control of drugs and the mentally ill the adage of "an armed society is a polite society" holds true.
Throughout history the well armed factions always prevailed over the unarmed. The U.S. and USSR kept an uneasy peace for decades because each country had equal firepower. Mexico disarmed it's citizens a couple decades ago and the result has been over 70,000 of them killed because the drug cartels failed to relinquish their weapons.
Most non-political studies in this country and others have found no correlation between the number of guns and the amount of violence.

The writer may want to also read about Red Adair. To extinguish a fire on a nblown out oil well, explosive charges are detonated at the well head. This consumes the available oxygen to fuel the fire and puts the fire out. Just an example of fighting fire with fire.

So as I understand things when your home is broke into at 3:00am you plan to be safe by hideing under your covers, am I right? Or you are going to call 911 and wait the 20 mins for the police to show up? Yep that's going to work so much better then meeting the crook with a gun in hand! So any crooks reading your letter with your name at the bottom only needs to look you up in the phone book and now know yours will be a safe home to rob!

So your gun of choice if broken into at 3 A.M. would be an assult rifle? Or are you saying someone is actually going to take all your guns away.If you believe someone is going to take all OUR guns away, That could be considered paranoid and thats like a mental health issue Maybe professional treatment would be in order.

"Or are you saying someone is actually going to take all your guns away."
To be honest, they are targeting "assault weapons" now, yet more crimes and fatalities are caused by handguns. You tell me the logical progression here.

Archaeol----You may want to do a bit of research before making that comment. There is a video of an interview Dianne Finstein gave following the Clinton gun ban where she stated Quote: If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate Mr. and Mrs. America turn them ALL in, I just couldn't get the votes." --- They just tried to force a bill through the NY senate that would have resulted in the confiscation of many firearms and registration of the rest. The New Orleans mayor had his police force go door to door and take the firearms away from the homeowners who were trying to protect their homes from looters. -The one thing all three have in common----All liberal Democrats---Who is in power in Washington?--- The firearms owners who follow these issues are not going to be fooled by false claims this time around.

Would a assault weapon pointed at you at 3:00am scare you more than a hand gun? It sure would me! Also banning the assault weapons is just the start of taking them all! Don't think so? If not you're the one that has mental health issues! Bush started the destruction of our constitution and bill of rights with the patriot act, this is just the next step in the burning of these documents that you father/grandfather fought and died for! And that's all just peachy keen with you! Now who is the mental case here? It isn't be paranoid it is being able to see what is happening and what they are working towards! You keep hideing under that bed you'll be safe there! That crook with the assault weapon won't see you there, you'll be fine! Lol. WAKE UP AMERICA THIS IS OUR COUNTRY STAND UP FOR IT ALONG WITH YOUR RIGHTS OR YOU WILL LOOSE THEM ALL!

Bravo Rod, Thanks for calling god up and getting his opinion on the matter. I did not realize someone in this town other than David Bauer had a hot line to the big man upstairs.

archaeo1, if we haven't broke any laws it's none of your business what we shoot an intruder with at 3am.
Keep your nose out of my vault and just worry about what slippers you're going to throw at a meth head that breaks in to your house. Never know, maybe fuzzy pink bunny slippers will make em laugh and you can run away.

riverrunner, I believe he was quoting Mrs. Rapp who said in her promotion of her bill that gun ownership is a God-given right. MTO: Logical progression doesn't mean a conclusive progression. Assault weapons were banned for 10 years. Nobody took away handguns in that time and no one is talking about it now. Jimmy1: If someone broke into my house, I'd reach for something far more effective at short range than an assault rifle, my shotgun.

If you read the Feinstein bill, you will see that she is trying to ban the sale of over 150 weapons including pistols, rifles, and shotguns. In several interviews, she has stated that her objective is the complete confiscation of all semi-automatic weapons in the United States.
No paranoia, just research.

25or624--- rather than quoting Joe Biden you might want to try your shotgun at close range before making those statements. The typical room is 15' or less and at that range you have to be just as accurate in your aim as you do with your semi-auto or your going to be standing there with an empty gun while jimmy1 is still shooting. Past that distance for awhile you may be better off but I doubt the rooms in your house are 30-40' long.
Besides, why would you ban a whole class of firearms in the name of gun safety when of approx. 13,000 homicides each year less than 45 are committed with semi-auto rifles. That number is straight from the mouth of the Senator who introduced the weapons ban. Who is kidding who?

"Nobody took away handguns in that time and no one is talking about it now."
"If I could have banned them all-'Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns'-I would have!" - Diane Feinstein
"We are going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!" - Representative Chuck Shumer
"I believe all handguns should be abolished." - Sen. John Chafee
"Ultimately, I would like to see the manufacture and possession of handguns banned except for military and police use." - Rep. Bobby Rush
Nope, nobody.

Talk is cheap. There are radical statements made on both sides of the issue. Radical statements hardly ever translate into law. That's why there are 438 Members of the House and 100 members of the Senate.

OK. My mistake. Poor choice of words. Heck, I can be radical too. Free speech promotes it. During the assault weapons ban. No handguns were banned. Shouldn't the logical progression have taken place sometime within 10 years?

I remember a friend's Dad telling me when I was a kid that Jimmy Carter was going to take away all our guns. That was more than 30 years ago Didn't pass the smell test then, doesn't now. The scare tactics aren't working.

We are one vote on the Supreme Court or a handful of votes in Congress from having a gun ban happen. It happened in Australia, it happened in Great Britain and many other countries. If not for the 4 Million NRA members along with a couple other gun rights groups who have been able to muster enough votes to defeat some congressmen in the past we would already have it here. This will be the toughest test yet. Nice try but you and Obama are not fooling anyone. We know who the enemies of the second amendment are.
