and she continues to get re-elected? can anyone point to any bill that she has sponsered through her tenure that has helped the district she represents?

Yes, the one she is currently sponsoring. There is no reason that a person should have to pay anything to a union if they don't want to join the union.

That would be true Another Opinion if they didn't accept any benefits or salary increases negotiated by the union. In other words you are afavor freeloading. So please don't skewer anyone taking advantage of Medicaid or Public Assistance on the backs of others. I say this as a person who has never been a union member and having negotiated from the management side of several union contracts. Fair is fair.

The same interests backing the RTW (for less) and other anti-worker legislation are also against Worker's Comp., Unemployment Insurance, and other worker protection measures.

Gutting the backbone of the country is not anti-American or anti-freedom. Collective bargaining is a RIGHT that helped make this country great. Republicans want us all under their thumb working for slave wages and no benefits. They want to destroy an independent middle class. THAT is anti-American.

Gary Payton owns a company that employees 100 union workers. However 10 of those workers are very unproductive, yet he has to give them all a 5% raise because it's in the union contract.
Gary determines that due to this low productivity he has to hire an additional 10 workers to take up the slack of the unproductive workers. In doing so Gary has to raise the price of his product so he can cover these additional expenses.
A month or so later Gary realizes sales are down because his price isn't competitive.
Now what does Gary do?

How can a life long resident hate America so much? I guess I'll move my company to China. The Republican version of economic development.

That's you're only choice?
Gary I respect you, I truly do but to me those 10 lousy workers are the un-Americans.
I know I won't change your mind and I have no intent to do so I was just curious what you'd do in this reversed role.
Now I know.
I always enjoy respectful banter.

Saying you hate America was uncalled for. I'm better than that. No harm done, I hope? Respectfully, CHEERS!

Well Lifelong I guess I'd do what I did in the 3 work situations I was involved with that had a union. I would document appropriately, follow the contract that MANAGEMENT negotiated and terminate for cause. We terminated dozens of people in a Union setting. Does it take a little extra work? Yes. Can it be done yes. Some folks forget that a union has to be voted into office by the workers. Remember democracy anyone? Kathy, do you remember democracy? Barack Obama is our president. 47% of the country doesn't like it but that's too bad. People can go through the steps to decertify a union. It happened at one of the places I was at with one of the unions. Also the contract in place was a negotiated one. Management has a role in negotiation.

i would like rep. rapp to give the name of one person who actually called her and said they disliked paying fair share dues and would like to opt out of it. just one. then she will show where she stands.

Good point, Reader. Bet she can't point to one citizen who asked her to sponsor the legislation. You know, I tried to remember one thing that Rapp has done to benefit the citizens in the 65th. Not one. I have seen plenty of photos of her handing out citations, or standing with with some group, but that just benefits her. Jim Lynch genuinely looks good compared to her. He at least supported the working people.

Lifelongresident and garypayton: thank you for showing that it's possible to disagree without being disagreeable.

I think it's more about being respectful.
There is no need for people to call other people names, etc... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No matter how wrong others think they may be.
I've seen people referred to as idiots, morons, etc... those people should lose posting privileges, in my opinion.
It's all these opposing viewpoints that make this interesting and I learn things from other peoples point of view.

MTO, not sure whether to agree or disagree. ;)
BTW I never click those silly buttons in case anyone cares.
I appreciate how you tend to lighten up the room when there is tension in the air. Keep it up.

"How can a life long resident hate America so much?" A better question would be, how can someone "born in Hawaii" yet claim foreign student assistance in college (whose records cannot even be verified) hate America so much that he wants to "fundamentally change" her? Ah riddles. Ya gotta love 'em.
