Horton: Jail and fines
SMETHPORT — “If there was a way to turn back time and change things, I would,” an emotional Andrew Horton said Wednesday morning in McKean County Court before he was sentenced to state prison for conspiring with his son to vandalize oil tanks on the Allegheny National Forest. The vandalism caused an environmental catastrophe, with 45,000 gallons of crude oil spilling onto the ground and into nearby streams. Horton acknowledged that and apologized to all the people impacted by the vandalism, adding a second apology to sportsmen “who enjoy the resources like I once did.” Horton, 43, of Bradford, was sentenced to serve 2 to 10 years with the Department of Corrections. Assistant District Attorney Ray Learn spoke of Horton’s anger with his former employer, Snyder Brothers Oil, and said the father’s demeanor influenced his son’s actions. Horton planned the crime along with his son Christopher, and took his son to the site of the oil tanks in August of 2008 to carry out the vandalism.
