The Trickle - Jan. 27

Volleyball

The Warren YMCA hosted a volleyball tournament last weekend. It was a hit. Players from Warren County were joined by folks from (at least) McKean, Potter, Chautauqua, Clarion, Erie, Mercer, and Crawford counties, Youngstown, Ohio, and maybe some Erie County, N.Y., and  Pittsburgh area people. The format was a popular one (part of the reason people came) and the facility is good for volleyball. Some of the best players from the region were there. Teams from Chautauqua County and a combination of folks from Warren and Clarion counties lost in the semifinals. A team from McKean and Potter counties played against a group that is from west of here (Erie, Mercer, and Crawford counties and Youngstown) in the finals, with the westerners coming out on top. Current and former Warren County high school players played on some teams. It was a good event and drew pretty well. If the weather had been a little better, maybe 10 teams would have come. Good job, YMCA. Keep 'em coming.

Tennis ball golf

I played at Clarkball this year. I heard of another good, local event. The inaugural Jim and Cindy Zavinski Snowball Golf Tournament at Jackson Valley Country Club brought together 20 teams of four. There was a band, food, beverages and it was for a good cause. The players hit tennis balls instead of golf balls and raised a bunch of money for the Zavinski scholarship fund. Props.

Spell-check madness

A Loveliest (Lottsville) company received some boastful (bailout) money from the government after recent struggles. The company helps people get their animals spayed and nursed (neutered). School board member Avenge (Angove) spoke about the importance of keeping the number of cats and dogs down.
