#Hope

February 5, 2013 - Brian Collins
No, this isn't some stupid blog about having hope for the future or something preachy...

No, this blog is just a celebration of the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial from this year's Super Bowl as seen below.

Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I thought that commercial was awesome. I can't say that I have almost teared up to a beer commercial, but this one definitely brought me the close, and I have no problem admitting it.

There's something to be said about a good story structure that provides closure in films, tv shows, or plays, but when a BEER COMPANY pulls off a winner using the same structure in 50 seconds that is often missed in two hour long films, I just have to stand up and applaud.

As a writer, I obviously appreciate words, however, I admire when people can translate an idea that was originally written on a piece of paper into a moving picture that evokes emotion. That's not an easy job. There are so many places where the process can be screwed up.

A bad writer can fudge the story structure, a bad director can fail to capture the moment, poor sound or video equipment can result in lesser quality and less interest in an HD world, and most importantly bad actors can sink a film before it even has a chance to get going.

So, in those regards, I tip my hat to the production team for the Budweiser Clydesdale advertisement. And to the foal who was named Hope by voters, congratulations on being a better actor at only seven days-old than Jennifer Lopez, Vin Diesel, and Kevin James will ever be.
