Well, the bucks are certainly stopping at Starbucks this holiday season...
For lack of better things to gripe about, I've zeroed in on a story in which 5,000 limited edition Starbucks giftcards were produced and sold for $450. The cards themselves have $400 on them to spend on coffee, food, etc... and Starbucks reports the stainless steel giftcards cost more than $50 to make.
As the giftcards sold out in less than six minutes, it is apparent that the cost did not bother too many people...what does bother me, however, is the fact that there are people selling the cards for more than twice what they're worth. Incredible.
Are we such a materialistic country that people can get away with what I essentially consider to be retail theft?!
A winning bid of over $1,100 was registered on eBay as a "lucky" individual was able to buy the giftcard for 244% more than it was purchased for...
We are the land of mounting national debt, yet our citizens are able to make these kinds of purchases...
