Cyber Monday is here.

In my opinion, Cyber Monday has become a celebration of the art of social media.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Cyber Monday sales are expected to top Black Friday's $1-billion in online spending. Sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving have more than doubled in the past five years. Projections show the total spending today to gross over $1.5 billion in revenue for businesses. A staggering number that has never been reached before.
Why? Allow me to speculate.

Consider the following:

Twitter and Facebook use are at an all-time high and only growing with every day that passes.

Millions of Twitter users tweet and re-tweet the deals that they have found online or heard via social media outlets.

In return, a simple click of the mouse directs the user to the exact item and the whole act of shopping can take as little as 60 seconds from start to finish.

Can you say that about any other means of shopping?

The answer is: NO.

Whether you're shopping for complete DVD sets of your favorite television show or looking for that perfect set of hand towels to accompany your new toliet seat cover, users of social media are sharing it all.

There is no tweet too odd for the internet.

There is no status considered too absurd on Facebook.

So users are able to share whatever they want and that allows niche shoppers to find items they may have never stumbled upon otherwise.

Thanks to Twitter and Instagram, I may become a proud owner or Snooki Slippers today.

...and people ask me why I love social media so much...
