If your dad was Batman

November 28, 2011 - Tom Schultz
There was a child in the newsroom today. But to be honest, that isn't exactly an unusual occurrence as people bring their daughters and sons in as they come and go to get certain things.

Normally I don't inquire why we are graced with a young-one in the newsroom, but today I thought I'd ask. The beginning of deer season means no school today, or at least that's what I heard. I wonder if that means businesses around the state, or country, have an influx in tiny ones in the workplace.

Born and raised in suburban New York, this is all sort of new to me. We never got a day off from school so people could go hunting. I think the few hunters we had just waited until the first weekend to go out for the hunt. But that's not the point of this particular blog.

It got me thinking about "Bring your daughter to work day." I remember it well while in school, but I don't recall ever taking part in it. Now before you make some inappropriate comment on it, sons were also allowed to "go to work."

After a quick Google search, I found that BYDTWD is in April this year.

It got me thinking about some of the great jobs some kids get to see with their parents: Police, firemen, doctors, REPORTERS, DPW workers, Batman. I'm sure there are limitations to this great day, but I'm sure a few exaggerated stories have been told.

However, I'm sure a few kids are indifferent about taking part in this 'holiday' when their parents are in fact teachers. Does it mean missing class to go to a class??

Not saying that teachers don't have important jobs, because they do, but I found the exchange amusing.

You forgot Navy SEALs, skydiving videographers, stuntpeople, and deep-sea welders. By the way, this isn't a direct quote, but... Batman is merely a character in a comic book. Also, work on your use of the subjunctive.
