The Trickle - Shave Weight

March 31, 2011 - Brian Ferry
So, there I was, talking to a work crew that was melting together some plastic pipe that will eventually carry natural gas around a portion of Warren. I asked the technical term for the process they used to melt the pieces together. They answered, very seriously, "butt fusion." The butt end of each pipe is heated and subsequently fused to its neighbor. They said the process results in a "weld" that is stronger than the rest of the pipe. Pretty cool. Still, the process was poorly named. I commented on that here in the newsroom and one of my colleagues suggested that Fusion is the name of a shaving system. Adding the "Butt" to the front of it makes it sound a little less serious. So, in keeping with that tone, I wanted to add an exercise system... (Pro Glide sounds like something Chuck Norris advertises). The new name became the Butt Fusion Pro Glide Shake Weight. Then, in that awesome moment of enlightenment, I knew the name didn't matter. What was important was the concept - Shave Weight. Many of us shave. Shaving isn't very good exercise. It's basically a grooming issue that takes time. Exercising can be time consuming and not terribly exciting too. So, killing two birds with one stone, shaving and exercising are linked. My ever-helpful colleagues tried to tell me this isn't a brilliancy prize-winner. What do they know?
