The Trickle - GO STATE!

December 22, 2010 - Brian Ferry
Early this volleyball season, it seemed there was no chance the Penn State Lady Lions would go on to a fourth consecutive national championship. The team had lost two players to the U.S. National Team. The team was ranked number 1 at the beginning of the season, but I didn't think that was merited. It turns out someone knew what they were talking about. Penn State played a strong Texas team in the semifinals last week. Earlier in the tournament Texas ousted Purdue who had defeated No. 1 Florida. Penn State looked good in the semi, though the matchup did not compare with last year's finals. Gone were Lions setter Alisha Glass and outside hitter Megan Hodge and the Longhorns' outside hitter Destinee Hooker. The Lions advanced to the finals against Cal and went on to win it all. As I watched the coverage of the event, I kept an eye open for one of the Lady Lion's volleyball team's biggest fans - Dean G. Every time I get to watch a match at Rec Hall, I see him in the stands, not far behind the first referee. I didn't catch a glimpse of him this time, but I suspect he was there. Go State!
