| | The Trickle - The Pro BowlFebruary 8, 2010 - Brian FerryThe Pro Bowl Two football blogs in one day? I don't have a lot of good ideas. I used to watch the Pro Bowl. I like all star games in general. I read that the AFC won this year. I didn't see the game. Didn't read past the headline. Don't like holding it before the Super Bowl and keeping out the players on the Super Bowl teams. There are a couple problems with football all star games. 1. It's a violent sport and unless the players are willing to Pete Rose-Ray Fosse it up during a meaningless game, it's going to strongly resemble a meaningless game. 2. Players in basketball and baseball don't need to work together for long periods of time to develop the chemistry to make their sports work. Sure, there are aspects to each game that work better with long-time teammates, but the stars still look like stars. How good does a quarterback look throwing to receivers he's practiced with twice? Think early pre-season after a trade. I think I'd rather see a football skills exhibition than a sham of a game. Take a page out of the NBA and MLB books. Home run derby. Dunk contest. Punt pass and kick for big kids? High-tech tackling impact tests? Speed. Agility. Arm strength. Something fun. I don't watch hockey all that much, but their skills competitions are quite cool. Why is the NFL not following suit? Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
