The Trickle - Blood

October 22, 2009 - Brian Ferry

Blood for the needy

Yep, it's that time again. It seems like I just gave a double helping of red cells over at Community Blood Bank's monthly gathering at the Holy Redeemer, but it had been four months. Tuesday was my day. They didn't have the double red cell apheresis machine ready for me, so I had to give a standard unit. I'm fine with that. They got my blood and I got out of there quickly. I showed up a little after noon and was given the option to wait for the apheresis machine. I was out of the building before the gentleman giving double red was unhitched. This way, I can go again in December. I don't have the stats memorized, but there is great need for blood and there are only so many people giving. So, if you haven't gotten a tattoo in the last year, haven't been out of the country for a long stretch and would like to do something good for your fellow man, think about giving blood. It doesn't take long, it doesn't hurt (just a pinch at the beginning), you don't have to look at the blood if you don't want to, most of the folks there are chatty and funny, the CBB people are always appreciative, and it feels good to know you have helped someone. And, there's food. I consider the food payment, but some claim it's there to put nutrients and fluids back in you after you give.
