The Trickle - Weather

October 22, 2009 - Brian Ferry

Let it snow - later

I'm not a big snow fan. I realize I live in the great white north and really don't have any right to complain. Still, I don't see the need for mid-October snows. I was on my was to Corning, N.Y., (it's a long stinkin' way to Corning from here) early Saturday and the snow just kept coming. On my way to Bradford on Sunday (places to go, you know) the snow wasn't actively falling, but there were places where the ground was pretty well covered in a white sheet. Great. I suppose I'll have to get on the ball and have my snow tires put on, find my industrial strength snow brushes, and whatever else my car needs to survive the winter. I might even have to liberate the snow blower and see if it works. Just two weeks ago I was trying to get pictures of fall foliage and complaining about the lack of brilliant color. I'll take greens and yellows, even browns, on the trees over white any time. The good news is, volleyball season (the real thing, not the part where the scantily clad people dive around in the sand) comes with the snow. I've played indoor volleyball in the middle of summer. It can be brutal. Most gyms that I've played in don't exactly have air conditioning. I suppose I should look forward to another season of driving to Rochester and Cleveland through blizzards.
