The Trickle - Airborne!

October 6, 2009 - Brian Ferry

Sky high

My flight in the 1940 Piper Cub Coupe, Nellie Belle, was excellent. I'd like to thank Dr. Pat Farrell publicly (although this is about as public as shouting it underwater) for taking a crazy reporter in his aircraft, circling Warren three times and not crashing. It was a great ride. The turbulence was far from the worst I've been in. I was a little uneasy, but, since Farrell had an interest in not crashing his valuable aircraft, as well as not ending up injured, I figured he'd do his best to bring us home safely. In the air it was noisy and windy. I got smacked around pretty good by my camera's neck strap when I stuck my head out the door and took pictures. But, the ability to stick my head (and torso) out of the door (doorframe?) was a great benefit to shooting air to ground. Next time the Beard guy comes up with a stunt for which he needs aerial photography I'll be happy to go. But I hope he schedules it just a little later in the year. If the fall colors were out in full, that would have been an even more spectacular ride.
