The Trickle - Spell-check madness

August 18, 2009 - Brian Ferry

This is a special edition of spell-check madness. Generally I just throw a lot of words my spell-checker doesn't know into a little story, playing on the funny suggestions I get in place of those words. This time, I'm going with some words the program does understand. Once upon a time I typed a fairly common word (no idea what it was) and the suggestion to replace it was 'bugbear.' I've read enough fantasy adventure novels in my day to recognize that as a mythical beastie. So, I tried some other creatures. No big surprise on unicorn, dragon, zombie and vampire. Troll has an alternate definition. I was mildly surprised by goblin, but maybe its connection with Spiderman put it in with another pop culture term - hobbit. So, my spell checker doesn't know lots of things, but it does know an assortment of mythical creatures. Lucky me.
