Our Opinion: Do not hesitate

It happens too frequently, right here in our communities. We see it in the collection cans at local stores, where we can donate money to help children battling cancer. We see it in newspaper stories about fundraising events to help their families.

And we see it in obituaries of children whose lives were cut short by cancer. There are about 1,250 of them, all less than 15 years of age, every year in our country.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump signed into law the Childhood Cancer Survivorship, Treatment, Access and Research Act. It was cosponsored by U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Jack Reed, D-R.I.

The STAR Act provides new federal resources for pediatric cancer research, improving treatment and helping childhood cancer survivors.

Bless you, Sens. Capito and Reed. And please, if other steps could be taken with our tax dollars to help children survive cancer, do not hesitate to follow up on the STAR Act.
