Our Opinion: Get over it

It appears a substantial number of liberals consider politics to be not the art of compromise, but a stage for temper tantrums.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who has a reputation of being among the more liberal Republicans in the Senate, is being targeted by some left-wingers. Her offense? Daring to introduce Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sessions is President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general. He is undergoing confirmation hearings this week.

A liberal protester at Collins’ office in Portland, Me., lashed out at her for supporting “the most racist, homophobic, anti-woman, anti-immigrant person” to be attorney general.

Similar rhetoric is being used to smear several Trump nominees, not to mention the president-elect himself.

Not so long ago — about eight years, actually — another president-elect with many political foes was about to take office. Perhaps liberals today should recall the advice they handed out so smugly to Republicans then:

Get over it.
