Our Opinion: Not on full display

In the past couple of weeks, Warren County has held a number of public events; events that put our community, our leaders on full display.

We have hosted the Warren County Fair, a Sheffield Fireman’s Festival, Youngsville’s A’Maiz’ing Corn Festival, the Kinzua Heritage Festival in Russell, the Warren County Historical Society has held public events, the Industrial Softball Tournament, Conewango Valley celebrated 100 years with a golf tournament featuring period clothing and clubs, and so on and so on and so on.

And then there was a forum held by Republican U.S. Congressman Glenn Thompson about the Allegheny National Forest. There was also a town hall meeting on state issues held by Republican U.S. Senator Pat Toomey. Both were held in Warren. Hardly any of the public was at either event.

The difference between the events hosted around Warren County and those hosted by our elected officials: publicity.

Thompson and Toomey did not promote their own events, and the public did not show up.

It’s a shame. They were informative events and more public input would have been welcomed and made these events better.

But these leaders were not on full display.
