Dave Byers

Dear Editor,

The Borough of Tidioute lost a great friend last week. Dave Byers, a son and strong supporter of the town, passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dave was a very successful man and a special guy. He used his wealth to support the town he grew up in and loved. For many years, he was the man in the background asking, “What do you need to make this project a success?” Whatever the need was, he opened his heart and his checkbook to help make things happen. From the Tidioute Area Health and Dental Clinic to the Library, Dave was there, behind the scenes, helping and staying out of the limelight.

Dave became acquainted with the Community Foundation of Warren County during the creation of the Tidioute Area Community Fund in 2014. Dave was the person whose generous contribution made the Tidioute Area Community Fund qualify for a one-to-one match by the Community Foundation.

And yet, Dave’s generosity did not stop there. Concerned about the future of important organizations in Tidioute, he opened The Byers Fund, established for the benefit of the Tidioute Area Health and Dental Clinic. He followed up with The Tidioute Institutional Fund, established for the benefit of the Tidioute Community Charter School and the Tidioute Public Library. He endowed those funds with substantial assets and they will provide support for those organizations in perpetuity. It was his hope that the people of Tidioute would contribute to the Funds for the benefit of Tidioute’s important community assets and the people they serve.

Dave was a tireless advocate for Tidioute, but he always remained in the background. In his quiet way, he made sure that projects were supported and successful. Dave has provided for Tidioute, his hometown, which he clearly loved. To the people of Tidioute, I hope you realize the legacy he left for your benefit. You should miss him. I know I will.

With deep respect and great admiration,

John Lasher,

Executive Director,

The Community Foundation of Warren County
