Allegheny Valley

Dear Editor,

The attempt by Clarendon Borough to acquire the former Allegheny Valley School is a win-win for the entire area. The acquisition will prevent the building from falling into disrepair, but more important is the Borough’s plan to lease the property to the Clarendon VFW Post 314. The VFW’s thought-out plans include turning classrooms into apartments for homeless and disadvantaged veterans, moving or maintaining the areas only playground which they have already funded, continuing the EOC, providing a center for veteran oriented activities, as well as giving a home to the ongoing activities of the VFW. The existing VFW building is to be sold to its neighbor Bingaman Lumber and torn down allowing the company to expand and hire more local workers.

I urge the School Board to approve this transaction.

Lee J. Borger Jr.,
