‘He doth protest’
“When good men stand idle….” and don’t remind those still in denial, then they shan’t be good men.
My President is a liar. This may still surprise a few, however the learned may have become so jaded to this truth that it bears reminding, and even more importantly, quantifying.
To some this lying may seem small, but honesty is the foundation of character. The truth is the common base from which all else is built.
Of the statements by my President that have been fact-checked, just 5 percent were deemed absolutely true. Twenty-six percent were just “mostly true” or “half true.”, whatever that means. A whopping (as in liar) 69 percent were found to be “mostly false,” “false” or “pants on fire,” (as in Liar, Liar by The Castaways, 1965)
It would be (is?) easy to process our understanding of today’s politics as: Yes, the President lies. That’s not new. That’s just what he does.
But to do so makes normal, or at least rational, something that is neither normal nor rational.
